Changing Lives Behind Bars

In December 2016, we embarked on an extraordinary journey - a mission that set a remarkable precedent. We joined hands with the Prisons Department of Sri Lanka to bring hope, skill, and a chance for redemption to over 40 inmates at Welikada Prison, Colombo.

You see, this is no ordinary tale. We didn't just want to put our name under the banner of "Corporate Social Responsibility." We wanted to live it, breathe it, and make a meaningful impact. We established a manufacturing facility right within the prison walls. Our goal was clear: to help these inmates learn a craft, a skill that could serve them beyond our prison days.

What followed was a 6-month-long odyssey of transformation; with our senior craftsmen and technicians as our guiding stars, these inmates mastered the art of manufacturing. They became skilled craftsmen, each capable of creating products from start to finish.

But here's the twist: they weren't just gaining knowledge; they were earning their way toward rehabilitation. When we completed our training, they started receiving a monthly remuneration. It wasn't charity; it was a reward for their hard work and commitment. The best part? 20% of our earnings went to the Prison Department, supporting the very system that had incarcerated lost souls to enlighten them, and the remaining 80% found its way into our personal savings accounts or to a nominated family member. It was an offer of hope, an opportunity to secure a better future.

And this is where the uniqueness of our initiative truly shines. We aren't just teaching skills; we're teaching life-changing skills. We're not just offering training; we're offering a chance for redemption. We take immense pride in being the only organization in Sri Lanka to provide prisoners with vocational training that's backed by financial rewards during their imprisonment.

But that's not where the story ends. Two prisoners, who successfully completed their sentences, have found a new home with us. They now work full-time within our organization, contributing positively to society, and serving as living testaments to the power of redemption.
